An unexpected brilliancy! Skeptical after reading bad reviews about drunken Schenker unable to tread on stage in previous years, I was amazed by the animated live performance and by the German hyper guitar solos.
And as if this weren't enough, surprise guests kept coming. First was Doogie White, ex-Rainbow frontman (I have always had the deepest respect for people who withstood working with Blackmore). Next came Rudolf Schenker, who brought in the rhythm nerve that his brother needed. Pete Way was the perfect final touch to this epic performance, with his classic red striped trousers and waysted appearance.
Truth being told, the surprise guests were not exactly a surprise, since a lot of rumors had circulated during the previous weeks. Furthermore, during the sound check, the engineer asked for Rudolf's guitar; speaking of whom, black adders say he came to test the ground for next year, when Scorpions might headline High Voltage as part of their goodbye tour.
Bottom line is, in my humble opinion, Schenker was one of, if not the highlight of the entire festival.
